Barracuda Profile

Tom Walsh

Tom Walsh has extensive experience in both competitive and recreational springboard diving. He began his work with the Bartlett Park District in 2011 as a springboard diving instructor, where he continues to teach year-round due to access to an indoor facility. He currently leads four classes each week, serving an average of 25 students across all sessions.

In 2014, Tom became the springboard diving coach at South Elgin High School. During his tenure, his athletes have qualified for the IHSA State Meet in six seasons, with four individual divers reaching the state level. In addition to this role, Tom has volunteered his time as a diving coach for several area high schools, including Bartlett, Lake Park, Wheaton North, the Addison Trail–Willowbrook co-op, the West Chicago co-op, and the D300 (Algonquin) co-op. He is particularly committed to supporting programs that lack dedicated coaching staff, facilities, or access to diving boards.

Tom currently serves as the head coach for the D300 (Algonquin) co-op, where he has helped develop the program’s first-ever state qualifier—a sophomore diver who placed 30th at the IHSA Boy’s State Meet, marking a historic milestone for both the school and its conference.

During the summer months, Tom has spent the past three seasons as the springboard diving coach for the Bloomingdale Park District. In this role, he coaches five days per week and works with an average of 25 divers.

Tom’s coaching philosophy centers on individualized instruction, focusing on helping each athlete reach their full potential as a springboard diver.
